Exercise BALIKATAN 2008, an annual Republic of the Philippines and U. S. bilateral combined exercise, will be held in the Philippines 18 Feb - 7 Mar 06. The exercise will be structured to further develop the Armed Forces of the Philippines in crisis action planning, enhancing its ability to effectively conduct counterterrorism operations, and promote interoperability between participating countries. The exercise demonstrates U. S. resolve, consistent with the Mutual Defense Treaty and Visiting Forces Agreement, as we continue our commitment to train, advise, and assist the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Combined Philippines/U.S., medical, dental, and veterinary teams will provide medical, dental and veterinary clinics. Engineering projects will improve four schools in during Exercise BALIKATAN 2008. Exercise Balikatan 2008 marks the 24th exercise in the Balikatan series.
